The mixed choir of European Capital of Culture

11.07.2010

The Mixed Choir of European Capital of Culture (ECOC) is undoubtedly unique –with its members working in fields of culture, the choir represents different angles of the Estonians most beloved culture tradition- choral singing. The choir started in december 2008 with 26 members and an ambitious conductor Ms. Veronika Portsmuth. The first challenge was to compete in the TV show Battle of the Choirs, where the choir made it to the Grand Finale. Since that there have been several international events where the Mixed Choir of ECOC has performed (Tallinn’s Maritime Days, Flower Festival, welcoming the torch of XXV National Song Celebration, Tallinn Day concerts in Tallinn and Helsinki etc.).

Today the mixed choir of ECOC has more than 40 active and energetic members. The repertoire varies from Estonian choir music to classical and pop pieces of the world music.

The participation in 2010 July at the World Choir Games competition in Shaoxing and concerts at the EXPO in Shanghai is a great honour, challange and possibility for the Mixed Choir of ECOC to introduce choir music from Estonia and to spread and share the joy of collective action.
